Control the capture point

Reliable LPR design starts by narrowing where vehicles can present a plate. A controlled lane, predictable distance, and limited angle usually matter more than a broad overview view.

Multiple lanes can create different distances and plate angles, which may require separate capture positions.

Angles affect readable plate shape

Large horizontal or vertical angles compress and distort plate detail. Camera height should be considered together with distance, not as an isolated number.

Speed changes exposure requirements

Moving vehicles require short exposure times to limit blur. At night, that often means specialized illumination, optics, and camera settings rather than simply adding more general light.

Plan day and night separately

Headlights, reflective plates, weather, ambient light, lane direction, and vehicle speed change after dark. Review real nighttime test images before accepting a layout.
